"fairly impressive work"

date: August 19, 2008

The music i've heard come from you is definitely more intricate than much of what is on this website. You're melodies are catchy, and the synths you use are pretty well thought out.
Now, though this is pretty impressive techno for a seventeen year old, there is still much room for improvement. I've only heard a few of your songs so far, but by the sounds of it, you seem to be using mainly major keys. If i were you I would try experimenting with minor keys and maybe brush up on some music theory. Especially if you are into Goa Trance, where minor scales are used fairly often among the more profficient artists in that genre. Also, I would definitely emphasise the importance of realtime synth tweaking, through the use of any sort of midi controllable knob, or with the mouse. It sounds like you already do some of that in your goa trance songs. I just think that realtime cutoff tweaking is a good substitute for some of the electro music cliches i've heard, such as the rather obvious phaser you used near the beginning of this piece. That's all the advice i can think of for now.
Btw are those rob papen synths you are using? If not, that's a name worth looking up.

I really enjoyed your use of real life outdoor samples. That's something that i've been trying to find a way to integrat into my songs for a while. The problem is that i haven't been able to find a good sound library, or buy a condenser mic. Anyways, I also really liked the synths you incorporated into the song. The ambient bells especially seemed to match the mood of the piece very well. Now were those jungle samples you used? It sounded almost as if they were a combination of multiple environments. Anyways, great job! Keep up the good work! Now, if i were to change one thing, i might add a mild drum beat to the background, or diversify the piece a little bit. But besides that, it was absolutely awesome tastic. 5 for sure.

Author's Response:

I do have another version of the track that is much less ambient and involves more focus on percussion. This one's the "seductive mix" I suppose because I removed all harsh tones from the mix, including percussion. The sound effects were from a game called Anarchy Online. I enjoyed the ambience in that game so it suited the style I was after. Glad you enjoyed it.
